We had a fun holiday season! We were thrilled to find out Jared, Laura and Kamryn were going to Costa Rica for Christmas and could easily fly to El Salvador for a visit! We had them for 5 days. During their visit we went to the Boqueron to view the volcano crater and the city, San Andres Mayan ruins, and of course, the beach. It was so fun to be with Kamryn and get to know her sweet spirit. She is truly a delight. She can say Gama and Bapa. The day we took them to the airport they literally crossed paths in the airways with James and Whitney who arrived for 2 weeks. That was the 23rd of December.
From the airport we drove to La Libertad for lunch on the coast. We passed through several areas of disaster where flooding from hurricane Ida had destroyed bridges, homes and lives.
It was a reminder of those who are suffering in this little country. And now in Haiti. A reminder of the reason for celebrating the Christmas season; our Savior's birth, life and his Atonement. Even though our world is not perfect, we have great hope that all will be well at some point in time. And that this life is but a moment compared to our entire existence; that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. All our lives, our work, our suffering, our doing good unto others is not in vain.
On Christmas Eve we went to the Temple roof to view the fireworks over the city. It was spectacular! It was actually chilly with a temperature of 58 degrees! Christmas Day we left early in the morning and spent the day and night at a friend's beach house. It was very peaceful and perfect to have family to share it with.
I think James and Whitney were glad to get home to Montana to "rest". We played SUPER tourists while they were here!
Our project continued through the holiday season but was slow with so many others gone. It was a good time to have the kids visit so we could take time off. In the Temple, walls are being framed, insulated and drywalled. Huge window frames were installed last week. Work on the tower continues. The Temple is huge and close to the busy street. It has a WOW factor even now without the granite and the angel on top!
The best in El Salvador? The Temple and how very special it is for the people of this country, whether LDS or not. This is a unique building; there isn't one like it in the country, nor will there ever be another. This is not me saying this but those who work on our project.
The worst? I can't think of anything at the moment. I still think the driving is out of control. It may still be the worst thing here!
We send our best hopes and wishes for this coming year to all. Our prayers are always that there may be enough hands to lift the weary and comfort those in need, that there may be enough goodwill to spread to all corners of the earth, that minds will be enlightened to change the problems that plague the nations. That there will be peace in our hearts and on earth. A tall order to ask for!
Often it's the small things we ask for and receive that make an immediate difference in people's lives. Like clothing for needy Salvadorans! Thank you all who have brought or donated clothing for women, children and young missionaries! Also, thank you to those for the funds to contribute to those in need in our circle down here!
